Ancient Roots opens May 19th

Art influenced by African fashion, traditional African masks, and the natural beauty of our world… with the objective to target social issues and represent black culture through mixed media, and digital paintings on canvas….

Christopher Clark (Cooli Ras Art) (Jacksonville, FL)

These artists are inspired by each another’s creative energy and support. Their styles are different, however tied together visually with elements of African and Caribbean culture.

Join us May 19th for the opening of “Ancient Roots” – Florida based artists display a never before exhibited body of paintings, digital on canvas, and multi-media works in this unique experience at Mergeculture Gallery in Tampa Heights.

About the Artists:

Christopher Clark (Cooli Ras Art):

Christopher Clark (b. 1987) is a visual artist and author living in Jacksonville, Florida. His objective is to target social issues and represent black culture and beauty through his body of work. Clark primarily works with acrylic and mixed media.

His work is currently on display at The Ritz Museum ‘Through Our Eyes Exhibit’. He counts nationwide exhibitions, future books, and photography among his interests and goals.

Melvin Halsey Jr:

Originally from Bury St. Edmunds, United Kingdom, Terrell is an illustrator and digital media artist based out of Tampa Florida. His work is influenced by African fashion, traditional African masks made from a plethora of different tribes, and the beauty of animals and nature around us. Many works contain both hidden messages and tributes to his family history. Terrell works with both traditional and digital mediums and many works feature a combination of the two. He was a student Hillsborough Community College in the A.A. – Education/Teacher Preparation program. He will be attending University of South Florida in Fall 2018 to further his education to become a K-12 art teacher.

Music provided by Wally Clark with a beat showcase by The SET. There will be an open dance session in the studio with the accompanying music, blending the subcultural connection of street and funk dancing with the visual artwork.
